About your GymGoal data

Do you collect my personal information?

We do not collect any information that could be used to identify you personally.

What information do you collect?

We collect averaged measurement and workout data if you opt in for "Compare to other GymGoal users" feature. This data is anonymous and provided to us as one big pile of aggregated data, meaning we have no way to view data for individual people, or to identify you from it. If you opt in for "Compare to other GymGoal users" feature, GymGoal on your device calculates some statistical summaries from your data and sends only these summaries to our server. On the server your summaries are averaged with other people's data, and the message from your device is discarded. Additionally you may open a free account with us to back up your data on our server. In this case our server stores your email address and your compressed and encrypted backup data.

What do you do with the data you collect?

We will never sell or rent your personal information to any third party. We use the data we collect only in aggregated averaged summaries in the feature "Compare to other GymGoal users". If you open a free server account with us to back up your data, the associated email address will only be used to email you your forgotten password on your request. We will never sell or rent your email address. We will not use this email address to email you any unsolicited information. Currently we do not have any newsletter or similar services. If we add a newsletter service in the future, we will not start emailing you newsletters automatically. If you back up your data to our server, your backup files will not be opened on the server. Your backup files will only be stored on the server to give you an opportunity to restore your data if you lose or break your phone.

How is my information stored?

GymGoal currently stores your information in a database on your phone, with no identifying information included. If you delete GymGoal from your phone, all of GymGoal’s data is also deleted. We also offer a free backup service. If you use this service, you can back up your data to our server. The server stores your backup data in a compressed encrypted file. The server software never opens this file and does not have any access to the information inside this file.

What happens if I lose or break my phone?

We hope that never happens to you! If you’ve backed up your phone using iCloud or iTunes, your data is safe, and the data will be restored onto your new phone along with GymGoal. Additionally, if you use our free backup feature, you can restore your GymGoal data from our server. GymGoal backups are not automatic - you need to press a button to back up your data to our server.
